Daladier held key positions in the French Government in the 1930s, including Prime Minister from April 1938 to March 1940. He was in favour of appeasement and signed the Munich agreement in September 1938. After the fall of France to German forces in 1940 he tried to set up a Government in North Africa to oppose the Vichy Regime. He was arrested and put on trial in February 1942, accused of taking France into a war for which she was unprepared. He remained in prison until 1945.
